Mk. 13:1-8 |
Lk. 21:5-11 |
| All scriptures taken from the NASB |
|
1 Jesus came out from the temple and was going away
when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. |
1 As He was going out of the temple, one of His
disciples said to Him, "Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful
building |
5 And while some were talking about the temple, that
it was adorned with beautiful stones and votive gifts, |
|
2 And He said to them, |
2 And Jesus said to him, |
He said, |
|
"Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to
you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down." |
"Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone
will be left upon another which will not be torn down." |
6 "As for these things which you are looking at,
the days will come in which there will not be left one stone upon another which will not
be torn down." |
|
3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the
disciples came to Him privately, saying, |
3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite
the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately, |
7 They questioned Him, saying, |
|
"Tell us, when will these things happen, and what
will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" |
4 "Tell us, when will these things be, and what
will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?" |
"Teacher, when therefore will these things
happen? And what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?" |
|
4 And Jesus answered and said
to them, |
5 And Jesus began to say to them, |
8 And He said, |
| The First Seal -- False Ministers |
| 1 Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven
seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder,
"Come." 2 I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow;
and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. |
"See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For
many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. |
"See to it that no one misleads you. 6 "Many
will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and will mislead many. |
"See to it that you are not misled; for many will
come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not go after them. |
| The Second Seal -- Wars and Rumors of
Wars |
| 3 When He broke the second seal, I heard the second
living creature saying, "Come." 4 And another, a red horse, went out; and to him
who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, |
6 "You will be
hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must
take place, but that is not yet the end.
|
7 "When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do
not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end |
9 "When you hear of wars
and disturbances, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end
does not follow immediately." |
|
|
|
10 Then He continued by saying to them, |
| and that men would slay one another; and a great sword
was given to him. |
7 "For nation will rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom, |
8 "For nation will rise up against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom; |
"Nation will rise against nation and kingdom
against kingdom, |
| The Third Seal -- Famines, Earthquakes,
and Disease |
| 5 When He broke the third seal, I heard the third
living creature saying, "Come." I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who
sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard something like a voice in the
center of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and
three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine." |
and in various places there will be famines and
earthquakes. |
there will be earthquakes in various places; there
will also be famines. |
11 and there will be great
earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; |
| The Fourth Seal -- Death |
| 7 When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the
voice of the fourth living creature saying, "Come." 8 I looked, and behold, an
ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him.
Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine
and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth. |
|
|
|
| The Fifth Seal -- Tribulation |
| 9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath
the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of
the testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying,
"How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our
blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 11 And there was given to each of them a
white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the
number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had
been, would be completed also. |
|

and there will be terrors |
The Sixth Seal -- Heavenly Signs
"The sun will be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the
great and awesome day of the LORD comes" (Joel 2:31). |
| 12 I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there
was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole
moon became like blood; 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts
its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14 The sky was split apart like a scroll when
it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 Then the
kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and
every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains;
16 and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the
presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17 for the great
day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?" |
|
|
and great signs from heaven. |
|
8 "But all these things are merely the beginning
of birth pangs. |
These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.. |
12 "But before all these
things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the
synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name's sake. |
|
|
|
13 "It will lead to an opportunity for your
testimony. |
