The Gospel According to Matthew

Matthew
13
Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him. 14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be
baptized by You, and do You come to me?" 15 But Jesus
answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way
it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him. 16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water;
and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and
lighting on Him, 17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens
said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
Matthew 4 (NASB)
2 And after He had
fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.
4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD
THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had
been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee; 13 and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is
by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.
18 Now as
Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter,
and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, "Follow Me, and
I will make you fishers of men." 20 Immediately
they left their nets and followed Him. 21 Going on from there
He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat
with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. 22
Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
25 Large crowds followed Him from
Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
Matthew 5 (NASB)
17 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 8 (NASB)
5 And when Jesus
entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, 6
and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented." 7 Jesus said to him, "I will come and
heal him." 8 But the centurion said, "Lord,
I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will
be healed. 9 "For I also am a man under authority, with
soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and
he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it." 10
Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, "Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in
Israel. 11 "I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the
table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; 12 but the sons of the
kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and
gnashing of teeth." 13 And Jesus said to the
centurion, "Go; it shall be done for you as you have
believed." And the servant was healed that very moment.
Matthew 9 (NASB)
1 Getting into a
boat, Jesus crossed over the sea and came to His own city.
9 As Jesus went on
from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector's booth; and He said
to him, "Follow Me!" And he got up and followed
Him.
Matthew 10 (NASB)
5 These twelve
Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of
the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; 6 but rather go to the lost
sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 11 (NASB)
23 "And you, Capernaum, will not be
exalted to heaven, will you? You will descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred
in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. 24 "Nevertheless
I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment,
than for you."
Matthew 12 (NASB)
36 "And
I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render
account for it in the day of judgment. 37 "For
by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be
condemned."
38 Then some of the
scribes and Pharisees said to Him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You." 39 But He answered and said to them, "An
evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but
the sign of Jonah the prophet; 40 for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE
BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the
heart of the earth.
Matthew 15 (NASB)
32 And Jesus called His disciples to
Him, and said, "I feel compassion for the multitude, because they have remained with
Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not wish to send them away hungry,
lest they faint on the way." 33 And the disciples said
to Him, "Where would we get so many loaves in a desolate place to satisfy such a
great multitude?" 34 And Jesus said to them, "How
many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish." 35 And He directed the multitude to sit down on the ground; 36 and He took the seven loaves and the
fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the
disciples in turn, to the multitudes. 37 And they all ate,
and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven
large baskets full. 38 And those who ate were four thousand
men, besides women and children. 39 And sending away the
multitudes, He got into the boat, and came to the region of Magadan.
Matthew 22 (NASB)
34 But when
the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves
together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question,
testing Him, 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment
in the Law?" 37 And He said to him, ""YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH
ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 "This is the great and foremost
commandment. 39 "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'
40 "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."
Matthew 23 (NASB)
1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to
His disciples, 2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees have
seated themselves in the chair of Moses; 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and
observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. 4
"They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are
unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. 5 "But they do all their deeds to be
noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their
garments. 6 "They love the place of honor at banquets and the
chief seats in the synagogues, 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, and being
called Rabbi by men. 8 "But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you
are all brothers. 9 "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father,
He who is in heaven. 10 "Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is,
Christ. 11 "But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 "Whoever exalts
himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
Matthew 24 (NASB)
1 Jesus came out from the
temple and was going away when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to
Him. 2 And He said to them, "Do
you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon
another, which will not be torn down."
3 As He was sitting on
the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will
these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the
age?" 4 And Jesus answered and
said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For
many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors
of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is
not yet the end. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8
"But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. 9 "Then they will
deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations
because of My name. 10 "At that time many will fall away and will betray one another
and hate one another. 11 "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. 12
"Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. 13 "But
the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. 14 "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world
as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
15 "Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF
DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let
the reader understand), 16 then
those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17 "Whoever is on the housetop
must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. 18 "Whoever is in the
field must not turn back to get his cloak. 19 "But woe to those who are pregnant and
to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 "But pray that your flight will not
be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21 "For then there will be a great tribulation,
such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. 22
"Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the
sake of the elect those days will be cut short. 23 "Then if anyone says to you,
'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'There He is,' do not believe him. 24 "For false
Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to
mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25 "Behold, I have told you in advance. 26
"So if they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the wilderness,' do not go out, or,
'Behold, He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe them. 27
"For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will
the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 "Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will
gather.
29 "But immediately
after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE
ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be
shaken. 30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all
the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS
OF THE SKY with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send forth His angels with A
GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of
the sky to the other.
32 "Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when
its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is
near; 33 So, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at
the door. 34 "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these
things take place. 35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass
away. 36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor
the Son, but the Father alone. 37 "For the coming of the
Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38 "For as in those days before the
flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that
Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them
all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. :40 "Then there will be two men in
the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41 "Two women will be grinding at
the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. 42 "Therefore be on the alert, for
you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 "But be sure of this, that if the
head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have
been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. :44 "For
this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do
not think He will.
45 "Who then is the
faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them
their food at the proper time? 46 "Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so
doing when he comes. 47 "Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his
possessions. 48 "But if that evil slave says in his heart, 'My master is not coming
for a long time,' 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with
drunkards; 50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and
at an hour which he does not know, 51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place
with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 26 (NASB)
1And it came about that when Jesus had finished all these words, He
said to His disciples, 2 "You know
that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be delivered up for
crucifixion."
20 Now when evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table
with the twelve disciples. 21 As they were eating, He said, "Truly
I say to you that one of you will betray Me." 22 Being deeply grieved, they each one
began to say to Him, "Surely not I, Lord?" 23 And He answered, "He who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is
the one who will betray Me. 24 "The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of
Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for
that man if he had not been born." 25 And Judas,
who was betraying Him, said, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" Jesus said to him, "You have said it yourself."
26 While they
were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the
disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." 27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to
them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is My
blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. 29 "But
I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I
drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."
30 After singing a hymn, they went out to
the Mount of Olives.
36 Then Jesus
came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."
Matthew 27 (NASB)
62 Now
on the next day, which is the one after the preparation, the chief priests and
the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, 63 and
said, "Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said,
'After three days I am to rise again.' 64 "Therefore,
give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day, lest the
disciples come and steal Him away and say to the people, 'He has risen from the
dead,' and the last deception will be worse than the first." 65 Pilate
said to them, "You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know
how." 66 And they
went and made the grave secure, and along with the guard they set a seal on the
stone.
Matthew 28 (NASB)

16 But the eleven
disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to
observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age."
