Roman coin bearing the likeness of Nero Claudius Caesar Drusus Germanicus (CE 37-68).

Nero Claudius Caesar Drusus Germanicus (CE 37-68), Roman emperor CE 54-68, was the stepson and heir of Roman emperor Claudius. His father was Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus. While his early administration (CE 54-59) was a moderate one, characterized by needed reforms, his personality changed and his administration took a turn for the worse beginning ca. 35. He became a mentally unstable tyrant. He blamed the Church of God at Rome for the CE 64 destruction of the precincts of Rome. On June 8, the Roman Senate recognized Galba and unseated Nero. He committed suicide on June 9, 68.
