Is the site of the Dome of the Rock that of Herod's Temple? Do Palestinians control the ancient site of God's Temples? Is the famous Western Wall, part of today's Haram esh-Sharif venerated by Jews, part of the Temple Mount in Herod's day? Not according to the evidence developed by historical and biblical scholar Ernest L. Martin. In this exciting new analysis of the historical and archaeological data Martin falsifies the theory that the Temples of God were on the Haram esh-Sharif. In a carefully reasoned account Martin shows that the magnificent structure traditionally understood by Christians, Jews, and Muslims, to be the venue of the Temples of God, was actually the Roman Antonia fortress. Herod named this Roman military structure after Mark Anthony. The basis of Martin's explanation was a hypothesis first raised by the late Israeli archaeologist Benjamin Mazar. Martin's exhaustive analysis of historical records lays out the case for the rejection of the theories that the temples were on the site of Haram esh-Sharif. Martin offers a new explanation which could lead to the building of a new Temple not interfering with Palestinian control of the Haram esh-Sharif. Martin's extraordinarily significant work places the Temples on the Ophel over the Gihon spring. This is an area 600 feet south of the southern wall of the Haram esh-Sharif on a site controlled by the Israeli government.
