Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE) was a son of Philip II of Macedon and Olympias. He became King of Macedonia (Alexander III of Macedon, 336-323), conqueror of Greek city-states and of the Persian empire, and the first Greek-speaking ruler to attempt world dominion.
